Overview

A virtual version of the Dragon's Den, made available to visitors as an attraction inside one of the towers. Unlike a broadcast set, an installation like this runs unattended, day after day, in front of a general audience - which puts stability and predictable performance ahead of everything else.

Virtual production, without a film crew

The setup is a green room built into a medieval tower: visitors step onto the chroma key floor and see themselves placed inside the Dragon's Den on the screen next to them. Same technique as a broadcast virtual studio, aimed at a completely different audience.

That changes the engineering. A television studio has an operator who can restart something between segments. Here the visitors are the operators, there is no technical crew standing by, and the system has to survive an entire day of strangers walking in and out. Everything that would be a minor glitch on set becomes a broken attraction.

My role

I supervised the project on the Unreal Engine side and coordinated the work. That covered the technical decisions behind the real-time scene, oversight of how the environment was built, and keeping the engine-side work aligned with the rest of the production.

Scope

  • Technical supervision of the Unreal Engine environment
  • Coordination of the project work
  • Real-time scene prepared for continuous on-site operation
